The course is in the form of Blended Learning, which combines online learning with classroom teaching. Participants enrolling in these classes must complete all online documents prior to the course section in order to complete the course. A lot, I want to pass next year. I nursed the first person on my list last Wednesday night to receive a Red Cross certification in First Aid, CPR and AED. I have had this certification before, but as someone who is regularly involved in fitness as a participant and as a coach, I really want the latest information. Needless to say, you never know when knowing how to provide emergency care can come in handy in everyday life. It’s something I’m glad to have, but I’d be happier if I didn’t have to use this knowledge.
This certificate is very easy to obtain. I signed up for the course through the Red Cross website, but most of my learning took place before online time. I watched videos, read case studies and assessed my knowledge of providing care for everything from soft tissue injuries and nosebleeds to stroke and heart disease. New since the last time I read this course was the section on using AEDs – automatic external defecation devices. I have heard and seen these things before because they are more common in many places, but never know how simple they are to use. I followed the online learning with a two-hour live course at the Red Cross office in Silver Spring, Maryland.
