This is a lifestyle property located on the Pacific Beach boardwalk near Crystal Pier. Guests can check out bikes and skateboards, book private yoga sessions and enjoy in-room spas for the perfect beach vacation (the hotel does not have a pool).
Inside the 47 guest rooms and suites, expect minimalist decor and modern amenities like rainfall showers, flat-screen TVs, and platform beds. You’ll want to choose a beachfront room or suite to view majestic Pacific sunsets from your terrace.

The on-site restaurant, JRDN, is also popular with locals and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The menu features California cuisine from acai bowls to a raw bar in the evening. You can’t miss the 70-foot wave wall that reflects the ocean amid colored lights. A sunset drink or dinner on the outdoor patio is also delicious.
Recipient of the prestigious AAA Four Diamond award, the Pacific Terrace Hotel is located at the northern end of the Pacific Beach boardwalk. Guests enjoy this Pacific Beach hotel’s service and comfortable guest rooms, each with a patio or balcony and Tommy Bahama-style decor.
The $18/night resort fee includes a beach chair, umbrella, boogie board and sand toys, and a two-hour beach cruise. Additional guests can book include s’mores and in-room spa treatments.
The heated outdoor pool isn’t huge, but it has cabanas and a wonderful view of the boardwalk and ocean. Breakfast is served on site and a limited room service menu.

Surfers tend to stick to Crystal Pier and north to Law Street Beach, so it’s easier to swim in front of the hotel here. This is also the quieter end of the boardwalk.
Directly south of the hotel is where things start to get a little grittier. A few steps north of Pacific Terrace is Law Street Beach, where many La Jollans bring their children to the beach.
They have a garage for self parking. The fee is currently $28/night. I can say from personal experience that the hotel also has excellent customer service. Free Wi-Fi is also available.
Catamaran Resort Hotel & Spa boasts a great location steps from the ocean beach but right on the gulf beach, giving guests the best of both worlds.
Things To Do In Pacific Beach San Diego
If you’re looking for a family-friendly Pacific Beach hotel, this is the best choice because it offers the most activities of any hotel or resort in the area.
In addition to a full-service spa, fitness center, fantastic on-site restaurant and pool, guests can take advantage of the myriad of water sports. Take a kayak, sailboat, paddle board, or motorboat (for water skiing or wakeboarding), and more on Mission Bay.
Summer activities include luaus and beach movies. Kids will love the resident tropical birds in addition to the ducks and turtles that cruise around the property’s bodies of water. Guests also have access to on-site bike rentals and an excellent coffee shop.
This is a casual three-star resort with recently refreshed rooms. If possible book a Bay Front room for easy access to the sand. They are very popular, so if you see one available, grab it.

Blue Sea Beach Hotel is an infinity boutique property, with 126 guest rooms and suites. It gets high praise for service and a convenient boardwalk location in the middle of the action.

Guests will love the complimentary flavored water and cookies in the lobby as well as the direct access to the pool boardwalk. The heated pool and Jacuzzi here both boast ocean views.
There is no restaurant on site or room service, but several Pacific Beach restaurants await within walking distance.
Fun Things To Do In Pacific Beach San Diego
Crystal Pier Hotel & Cottages is located on the privately owned Crystal Pier and is some of the most unique accommodations in all of San Diego. Some cottages, depending on the tide, sit over the water.
Choose from studios, one-bedroom or two-bedroom beach cottages on the pier with private patios overlooking the ocean and beach, kitchenettes and dockside parking for one car. Hotel rooms are located in buildings on the boardwalk.
Note that light sleepers may have trouble with the sounds of the ocean echoing under the pier. Crystal Pier is also open to the public and is one of the best places in San Diego to watch the sunset.
However, once the pier closes at night, only hotel guests have main access to it. Reservations open 11 months in advance, must be made in person or by phone, and fill up quickly.
Best Beaches In San Diego
Here’s how to research to see if staying at Pacific Beach hotels is right for your San Diego vacation and some tips for choosing guest rooms.

Your children can see and smell along the boardwalk, which can make you uncomfortable, but this is less important on the sand.
It’s a party town, and while it’s buzzing with investment and expensive real estate, it can have a spring break vibe during peak season. It’s fun for some and annoying for others.
