Two budget airlines, Spirit Airlines and Frontier Airlines, have announced new routes to Puerto Rico starting this summer.
Additionally, Sprite will expand its coverage from Baltimore, Newark, Fort Lauderdale and Orlando to San Juan in the spring and summer.
Both Spirit Airlines and Frontier Airlines are known low-cost carriers (they can be more expensive if you add extras like checked or held bags or choose your seat assignment).

But if you’re traveling light and don’t mind sitting in a cramped middle seat for a few hours, flying Spirit or Frontier can be a budget-friendly way to get to Puerto Rico.
To take advantage of these low prices, you’ll want to book as soon as possible for travel in May and June this year (some dates and restrictions may apply).

Beginning October 5, Alaska Airlines will begin daily nonstop service from Tampa International Airport to San Diego, California.
Frontier Airlines will offer direct flights from Tampa International Airport to Aguadilla, Puerto Rico three times a week starting May 4, while Alaska Airlines will begin daily nonstop service from TIA to San Diego, California starting October 5.

According to a news release, TIA has offered nonstop flights to San Diego until September 2021, but it is currently the airport’s largest 24-hour non-service market in terms of demand. The new route will offer nonstop flights and complement Alaska Airlines’ other direct routes to West Coast destinations including Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
“Tampa International Airport is proud to work with our airline partners to better serve travelers to our most popular destinations,” TIA CEO Joe Lopano said in a release. “Hundreds of passengers fly between TIA and San Diego every day, so this new nonstop Alaska Airlines connection It provides a welcome daily option without needing it.”
Meanwhile, Frontier Airlines’ flights to Aguadilla will be TIA’s first nonstop flights between Tampa and Puerto Rico’s west coast city. Frontier now offers daily nonstop service to San Juan.
“Frontier’s new 24/7 service to Aguadilla will help serve both Puerto Rico and the broader Tampa Bay area community with connections to the island, which sees hundreds of passengers traveling in each direction each day,” Lopano said in the release.
