This gave us plenty of time to return the rental car, check in, and get through security before wandering around the shops in the main hall. I expected the crowds and lines to be worse considering it was still (technically) Thanksgiving weekend, but we never had to wait in line for anything.
Check-in was quick and easy, and there was absolutely no waiting in the Air Priority lane at security. One funny (stupid) thing was that we were a bit confused at first trying to find the Sky Priority checkpoint, but instead of using the normal line, because there were so few people ahead of us. But When we saw our Air Priority boarding passes, the agent sent us to walk through the Air Priority line. Of course, it would have been faster to stay where we were, but lol…

Our trip to San Diego was departing from Gate G22, which is the last gate at the end of Concourse G. In other words, it was a long journey. Not to worry though, as we had plenty of time to travel.
Boarding was delayed by a few minutes due to a late flight, and the configuration of gate 22 (on the corner) made the crowds difficult. But we squeezed our way in and sat in our seats (2C and D) for a while. I chose the seats on the right side of the plane in hopes of good photo opportunities on the trip west, but the sun was fading fast on the way up and had completely disappeared by the time we turned back. oh good
Hot towels were handed out 10 minutes after 32L left, quickly drinks and then dinner orders.

Dinner options on the night flight were chicken or teriyaki ravioli. Both were still available when the flight attendant got to our row, so I chose the chicken and my wife’s ravioli.
And once again, I was very impressed with the quality of Delta’s first class food! Both dishes were very tasty, although I preferred the ravioli because the chicken was too spicy for my taste. But still, the portions were generous and the quality was very good by first class standards – I’ve certainly had international business meals that weren’t this good.
Since there was no in-flight entertainment (except my phone or tablet), I slept through this 3 hour 45 minute flight. My wife later mentioned that the flight attendant came through the cabin several times with a basket of snacks, as well as making sure everyone had enough to drink. Yes, the service was great, and that’s what I’ve experienced with Delta on these long interstate and trans-con flights.
Despite leaving MSP for a few minutes, we made it to SAN on time, after which we took a long taxi to T2 West Gate 50. What was your plan for this trip? Every gate we used (literally and practically) was the furthest away from the main terminal. Not a big deal, other than annoying (and a little interesting).
