Illinois Tech’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) has a tradition of innovation that dates back to 1901, when faculty member Lee DeForest, widely recognized as the “Father of Radio,” sent the university’s first long-distance transmission. The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering offers a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (B.S.E.E.) degree. The Department also offers a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering (B.S.CP.E.) in conjunction with the Department of Computer Science. Electrical and computer engineers contribute to diverse and challenging application areas, from nanotechnology to large-scale energy networks, from miniature electronic devices to networks with billions of nodes. Small and large product development companies, manufacturers and service providers in areas such as telecommunications, computer systems, power systems, control systems, semiconductors, aerospace, healthcare, biomedical engineering, security and transportation provide exciting career opportunities in these fields. Tracks in the Illinois Tech ECE graduate program offer students the flexibility to pursue further study in the corporate sector, government agencies, graduate or professional schools and match their abilities and interests.
Illinois Tech’s ECE Department has offered ABET-accredited online master’s programs since the early 1980s. Online courses are the same courses we teach on campus. All materials and requirements are the same whether you are in class or watching from a computer. A variation of face-to-face meetings with teachers can be achieved using Zoom or other video conferencing.

Courses are taught through a secure Collaborate Ultra account that students can access through their My Portal. Instructors will send you whiteboard and email communications with instructions on how to submit homework and take exams.
