Illinois Tech’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) has a tradition of innovation that dates back to 1901, when faculty member Lee DeForest, widely recognized as the “Father of Radio,” sent the university’s first long-distance transmission. In 1906, he invented the first tube capable of amplifying electrical signals. Marvin Kamras, “Father of Magnetic Tape Recording” and Marty Cooper, Inventor of the Cell Phone.

Kindergarten teachers, students and graduates continue to change the world with the development of alternative energy technologies and advances in communication.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering offers a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (B.S.E.E.) degree. The Department also offers a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering (B.S.CP.E.) in conjunction with the Department of Computer Science. Both degree programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET,  http://www.abet.org.
