The program will expose you to a wide range of perspectives on intellectual property, practice and policy. Edinburgh School has specialized in intellectual property rights for many years and in 1998 founded the SCRIPT Centre, a forerunner of the IP and IT Competence Centre. Intellectual Property Law
After completing 120 credits of taught courses in the Intellectual Property LLM, you are ready to move on to one independent and in-depth study. In the 10,000-word thesis, you can focus on a topic of your choice in the field of intellectual property rights, usually based on a topic you have studied in one of your courses during the program.
You will be assigned an academic dissertation advisor who will give you support and guidance in preparing and writing your dissertation.
The dissertation is a challenging but rewarding endeavor that asks you to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the relevant literature and the ability to critically engage with a variety of sources, utilizing the skills and knowledge you have developed during the program. Students are encouraged to show originality and evidence of independent thinking, be it the material used or the way it is presented.
The thesis is written in the summer months (April-August) after the end of the courses taught.
