Los Angeles To Madrid Direct Flight

Los Angeles To Madrid Direct Flight – Airline: Iberia Lineas Areas Flight Number: IB6171 Route: MAD-LAX Class: Business Class Aircraft: Airbus A330-200 Registration: EC-MMG Departure: October 2016 Flight Duration: 12 hours 25 minutes Distance: 5,845 Miles
It’s the first time we’ve flown Iberia’s long-haul business class product on their Airbus A330, so we’re really looking forward to the business class experience with the Spanish airline. Iberia chose Solstice-style lie-flat seats for their Business Class product. All seats are face-to-face and configured in a 1-2-1 staggered configuration. Every business class seat has direct access to the net (without stepping on your neighbor). The service from the senior staff who handled our flight was really good. The flight attendants we interacted with during the flight were friendly and prompt with our orders. My biggest disappointment on this flight was the catering. I thought the food quality and selection was pretty poor, considering it was a 12+ hour flight. We were hoping to try some good Spanish food, but unfortunately there was none on this flight

Seating – I find Solstice chairs to be very comfortable to sit, relax and sleep on. It offers plenty of storage space and you get a nice ottoman to rest your feet on. I got about 6 hours of sleep on this flight, which was great. As a tip: For solo travelers, even-numbered window seats offer the most privacy, as the seats are closer to the window. On the other hand, the odd-numbered middle seats are “honeymoon seats” that are perfect for couples traveling together.

Service – The crew we interacted with were very charming and eager to please. They offered us pre-departure drinks before take off. They were quick to respond to our requests and very professional.
Madrid’s Iberia Lounge – Sala de Velazquez Lounge at MAD is probably the best airport lounge. The lounge is very spacious and offers plenty of comfortable seating. The self-service buffet offers a selection of hot and cold dishes and great snacks. There is also an espresso machine and an excellent selection of hot and cold drinks.
Onboard amenities – All business class passengers are provided with a business class amenity kit and noise canceling headphones, which is pretty standard these days. Our seats are also available with pillows, blankets and full size mattresses with good padding. The restrooms are very clean but only provide hand soap. No other toiletries are available in the toilet.
Catering – I am a fan of Spanish food. This is actually the reason we went to Spain, so needless to say I was very excited to try the catering inspired by Iberian Spain. The starter I ordered which was fava bean salad with vegetables was bland and didn’t look appetizing. Meanwhile, my companion ordered sardines in olive oil. Unfortunately he didn’t like his dish either (which is surprising since he’s a big fan of canned Spanish sardines). He noted that the sardines were not very tasty and the overall dish was disappointing. For the main, I ordered the beef cheek in Rioja reduction. It was an OK dish, but parts of the meat were overcooked and almost inedible. My friend ordered the gambas al ajillo (Spanish style garlic shrimp), which he said was pretty good, but the dish only had 4 small shrimp. For dessert, we both had chocolate ice cream, which was delicious! -This is the highlight of the meal. A second meal is served 90 minutes prior to arrival. I ordered the Spanish omelette, which was served cold with chorizo, marinated zucchini and cheese on the side. The food was good, but I found it a bit “light” considering we were in the air for 10+ hours. My friend chose the seafood pasta dish, which again was very small and this time only had 3 pieces of shrimp. The only consolation I can say is that Iberia offers an excellent selection of Spanish wines.

No Personal Air Nozzle – Unfortunately this aircraft is not equipped with a personal air nozzle to keep you cool during the flight. The cabin is also kept very warm during the flight. It’s not the end of the world, but just so you know…
I’ve read the reviews and seen the Iberia Business Class horror story travel reports, but is it really that bad? The short answer is no! I thought the flight was very comfortable. The Iberia Lounge in Madrid is good and offers plenty of lounge seating and a reasonable amount of food and drink. The comfortable seats are very comfortable. I was able to sleep for a good 6 hours during the flight and arrived at LAX in peace. The facilities on board are quite standard. The service from the crew was friendly, relaxed and the crew did a good job of accommodating our requests during meal service. The only real disappointment is the in-flight catering. I really wish Iberia would put more thought and attention into their in-flight meals, especially on long-haul flights.
