Air India Flight With All Woman Crew From San Francisco Lands In Bengaluru
Air India has today (December 15, 2022) launched the first of its three times weekly flights between Mumbai and San Francisco. This follows the launch of thrice-weekly flights between Bengaluru and San Francisco on December 2, 2022.
The flight will operate three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays with the newly introduced Boeing 777-200LR aircraft, the first of which is already included in their fleet and is an ex-Delta aircraft.
This flight will increase Air India’s flight frequency to India and the US to 40 non-stop flights per week. Air India operates direct flights from Mumbai to Newark, Delhi to New York, Newark, Washington, San Francisco and Chicago and Bengaluru to San Francisco. It will be the third Indian city after Delhi and Bengaluru to have a direct flight to San Francisco.
The first flight, AI 179 from Mumbai to San Francisco, departed Mumbai at 14:30 and arrived in San Francisco at 17:00 (local time) the same day. Return flight AI 180 departs San Francisco at 21:00 (local time) and arrives in Mumbai at 3:40 + 2 days.
Air India Resumes Its Most Popular Bengaluru & San Francisco Non Stop Service
Given the limited time Air India had between closing the deal for these aircraft and their entry into service (and the fact that these aircraft will only be around for the next 2-3 years), Air India left the aircraft intact and reconfigured it . This means you will receive the same product that Delta used to operate this aircraft. The only thing that has changed is the reference to the Delta logo and the red accessory being removed from the aircraft.
I was able to fly VT-AEF (AI687) today. I got a seat in the premium economy section (albeit economy tkt). Great solid product! The general feelings and mood were super positive! The crew was also excited to fly and prepare for its BOM-SFO debut. @airindiain @Vinamralongani pic.twitter.com/dQDyEqiroK — Deep Choudhuri (@deep_choudhuri) December 13, 2022
Currently, there is only one aircraft registered to VT-AEF and this aircraft will fly Mumbai – San Francisco and return for now. So in this sector you should expect a well-maintained aircraft with a working IFE and business class with privacy doors.
Delta had a great 2-4-2 premium economy cabin on these planes. However, since there is only one aircraft currently available, Air India does not sell the premium economy aircraft (as there is no replacement aircraft available in case of grounding).
Air India Officially Introduces Premium Economy On Select Flights Between India And The United States
To monetize these planes, Air India is now working on an Economy Plus strategy (without calling them that). They sell seats in this particular sector, from Mumbai to San Francisco, and return for INR 8,985 / USD 110 (depending on the country of origin).
Along with more legroom (38 inches of pitch and 7 inches of pitch) and better seats, Air India offers the promise of premium dining and noise canceling headphones on those seats. You can see the details here.
Be sure to select seats in rows 20-25 to get “premium economy” seats. If you have already made your reservation, you will still be able to select these seats by receiving your reservation at – manage my reservation –
