The airline is scheduling two daily flights to Las Vegas and daily flights to Dallas and San Diego, airline officials said in a news release.

Non-stop flights will begin on June 7. To celebrate the new service, the airline will offer limited introductory fares, with one-way flights to Las Vegas starting at $39, to San Diego from $59 and to Dallas from $89, officials said.
“This new partnership represents a return to leisure travel and demonstrates how aviation markets are changing to expand opportunities and new approaches,” said John Aitken, the airport’s director of aviation, in a news release.
San Jose Mineta will become the second major airport in the Bay Area and the seventh in California to provide flights from Spirit Airlines, officials said. The airline also offers service at Oakland International, Sacramento International, Los Angeles International, Hollywood Burbank Airport (Los Angeles County), John Wayne Airport (Orange County) and San Diego International.
“With our new affordable, nonstop flights to popular destinations, we’re making it easier than ever to vacation and connect with loved ones,” said John Kirby, Spirit Airlines vice president of network planning, in a news release.

A Spirit Airlines flight from Dallas to Orlando was diverted to an airport in Jacksonville, Florida, after a passenger’s luggage battery caught fire in an overhead bin, airline officials said.
Flight 259 landed safely on Wednesday afternoon and was taxied to the terminal, the Florida-based airline said in a statement. Several people from the flight were taken to hospital after becoming ill.

“There was a retired firefighter who jumped out and the flight crew came in and tried to put water on him and another guy went and got a bucket because I think the firefighter reached down and grabbed him and they put him out, but it took about 20 minutes.” passenger Kerry Arakawa told FirstCoast News.
Jacksonville fire officials said one person was initially taken to the hospital, but more people felt sick as time went on.
“We thank our crew and guests for their quick actions to ensure the safety of everyone on board and we thank the first responders who came across the aircraft,” the airline said.

DALLAS – Spirit Airlines (NK) has announced the addition of new service between Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) and San Juan, Puerto Rico. This addition comes as Spirit adds five new routes from Luis Munoz Marin International Airport (SJU) in DFW, Chicago (ORD), Atlanta (ATL), Hartford (BDL) and Detroit (DTW).

The airline is expected to connect SJU to 16 destinations by June. NK also announced that it will increase frequencies between SJU and Orlando (MCO) to five daily flights and to Fort Lauderdale (FLL), Baltimore (BWI) and Newark (EWR) to two daily flights.
The route to DFW will operate daily and will begin on May 5. The flight will be operated by the Airbus A320 with 182 seats, including eight “Large Front Seats” and 174 economy seats. The flight is scheduled to last four hours and forty minutes.
Spirit recently added three new flights from Dallas/Fort Worth, in spring 2022, with service to San Diego (SAN), Charlotte (CLT) and EWR, bringing the number of destinations served by the carrier from DFW to 17.
These new additions are part of the airline’s plan to increase capacity from the airport by 20% by April 2023. The low-cost airline has been the second largest from DFW for the past two years and is expected to have 32 daily flights in run summer 2023.

In January, Frontier Airlines (F9) also announced that it will begin service between Dallas and San Juan, bringing the number of destinations served by the carrier from DFW to 20. The new service will begin on May 4, 2023.
