The average adult gets two to three colds a year. It is usually caused by a rhinovirus, and the cold usually lasts 7-10 days. If cold symptoms last longer than 7-10 days and/or symptoms worsen after 7 days, it is likely to be a bacterial infection that usually requires antibiotics.
Baby Congestion: Causes, Symptoms, And Home Remedies
Acute sinus infections (symptoms lasting less than a month) are usually caused by an upper respiratory tract infection (URI) and sometimes by a viral infection. Chronic sinus disease (symptoms that last for a long time) is a serious inflammatory disease that carries many risks. These include asthma, aspirin sensitivity, environmental allergies, smoking, environmental or occupational pollutants, pollutants, cystic fibrosis, immune deficiency, systemic inflammatory disease, dental infection, or anatomic abnormalities.
Having symptoms on one side of your nose or face may be normal during an acute infection, but should clear up as the infection progresses. If these unilateral symptoms last longer than a cold, it may indicate an imbalance in the form of a deviated septum, nasal congestion, swelling, polyps, or dental disease. These and other serious symptoms such as shortness of breath, debilitating pain, swollen eyes, altered vision, high fever, severe neck stiffness, and/or mental confusion should be treated by an ENT specialist.
Many over-the-counter (OTC) medications are effective and available for sinus congestion and drainage, but not all OTC medications are safe to use intranasally. Nasal steroid alcohols, antihistamines and decongestants, saline rinses, menthol vapors or mists may help with symptoms of discomfort such as runny nose, itchy eyes, and/or sore throat. Patients with chronic sinusitis or severe allergic rhinitis may be given systemic steroids (oral or injectable). However, nasal decongestants (Afrin®, Neosynephrine®) are short-term medications that should be used for less than a week because they can get into the bloodstream and cause nasal congestion.
Treatment options may vary depending on how severe or how severe the symptoms are. Other conditions that may be confused with chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) lasting three months or more include:

If your snot is still yellow after 10 days, you should see a doctor.
