The Doctor of Philosophy is considered a research degree and is awarded on the basis of scientific ability, exceptional achievement in a particular field, and capacity for original and independent research.
What To Do After Getting An Electrical And Electronics Engineering Degree
The UA Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering offers a variety of opportunities for research with our faculty:
The graduate school form above must be department-initiated, but indicates what is required for graduation. This is not a complete list of all possible forms What is required before getting the degree Please contact your academic advisor/graduate director to submit your form
Applicants for graduate work in electrical and computer engineering must apply for admission to the UA Graduate School. Regular admission may be granted to applicants who have an electrical engineering degree from an ABET-accredited program and an overall GPA greater than 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, 3.0 for the last 60 semester hours in an undergraduate program, or 3.0 for a graduate program. In addition, to qualify for regular admission, applicants must score 300 on the GRE (combined verbal and quantitative subcourses).
Conditional admission may be granted to applicants who do not meet these requirements, for example those with a degree in a relevant field or a GIA of less than 3.0. International students must have a TOEFL score of 79 (iBT) or 550 (pBT) or higher for graduate admission. GRE Verbal and Analytical Writing scores must be consistent with international applicants’ TOEFL scores.
Ua Research On Renewable Energy Systems Leads To Patent
Conditional admission may be granted to applicants without a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or computer engineering. Students will be required to successfully complete three 400-level electrical engineering courses, each in a different sequence area. A “B” or better in the course is required for successful completion Courses (400/500) with an italicized listing taken to comply with this policy may not count toward the graduate degree.
An equivalent undergraduate or graduate course in a related field (for example, electromagnetics in physics, computer architecture in computer science, or control in mechanical engineering) may count as a course in the appropriate electrical engineering field upon approval by the graduate program director.
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering offers financial support in the form of teaching and research assistantships to outstanding applicants. Part-time teaching or research assistantships offer a competitive salary and full stipend for the academic year. A student applying for graduate studies in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is automatically considered for departmental assistance during the review of application materials. Continuing students must complete a departmental assistant application Notifications for issuing grant applications and deadlines are made by the department during the fall and spring semesters.
Department provides Teaching Assistants (GTA) based on expected teaching skills An individual faculty member, who has sponsored a research grant for a professor, is awarded a Research Assistantship Award (GRA). GRA positions are created on the basis of mutual interest between students and professors Only students who maintain an acceptable level of performance are eligible for assistance

Undergraduate students will take basic engineering courses as well as specific courses in circuits, electromagnetic fields and waves, microprocessors, communications, signal processing, control systems, and physical electronics. Graduates of the program are prepared for positions as electrical engineers in industrial, commercial and government organizations.
The field of optics and photonics is growing rapidly with applications in autonomous vehicles, machine vision, high-efficiency solar cells, large and advanced display screens, etc. Electrical engineering works as an integral part in all these applications Therefore, a concentration in optics and photonics in electrical engineering provides students with a pathway to careers in these exciting fields.
Concentration students take the same classes as regular EE students during their first three years In their senior year, they take two compulsory and two elective optics classes Students are encouraged to do a senior design project in electro-optics.
The electrical engineering option must include a sequence of two courses Below is a list of approved orders Students can choose an order from this list or substitute an alternative order representing another area of specialization within the ECE discipline. The remaining 6 hours may be chosen from 300 hours or more of CPE, EE, or OPE (unless otherwise noted on the list) offered by the ECE department, subject to student advisor approval.
