University Of Chicago Psychology Phd

University Of Chicago Psychology Phd – Congratulations on being at this point in your graduate education! Thank you for your interest in the Clinical Psychology PhD Internship Program at the University of Chicago Medicine (UCM). We are pleased to provide you with updated internship information for 2023-24. We are accredited by the American Psychological Association through 2029.
Our clinical psychology PhD internship program is affiliated with the Department of Neurology and Behavior at the University of Chicago, in the Department of Adults and Children. Internships have been an important part of the department’s education for many years and are integrated into the educational mission of the department and the larger medical center. Our internships are designed to train health psychologists for entry-level practice in academic settings. Highlights of our program include socially responsive, evidence-based assessment, intervention and consultation methods, and the integration of science and practice. We provide training that focuses on the breadth of our adult and pediatric general clinics, while allowing our interns to develop areas of focus during their internships. Most importantly, our internships are personalized and can be adapted to our interns’ specific goals. Each intern receives at least four hours of individual supervision each week and participates in several hours of instruction designed to enhance the acquisition of mental health competencies. We believe that we provide a challenging and supportive environment for pursuing a doctoral internship degree in clinical psychology.

As we adapt to a world that continues to face the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, we recognize the importance of providing information about its impact on our training programs. We have continued to respond to the level of risk posed by this disease with the safety of our students, staff, faculty and patients as our primary concern, while continuing to meet the needs of the communities we serve. We are grateful for the scientific advances that have contributed to a better understanding of diseases and the availability of vaccines. All UCM employees must be vaccinated against COVID-19 and flu (with rare medical or religious exceptions). We currently provide inpatient care, counseling services, psychological evaluations and some integrated care, using a hybrid approach where possible, with appropriate safety protocols for face-to-face contact where possible. Outpatient services for psychiatric care and psychotherapy also operate in a mixed form. In-person care is available, although some patients continue to demand and prefer telehealth. We aim to provide personalized instruction and guidance rather than in a video format. It is designed for comfort, flexibility and safety. To address some of the losses associated with remote work, such as inter-professional collaboration, socialization between interns and with our faculty, developing a support system for our interns, and a general sense of community, we now need interns and teachers. Post at least three days a week. Our training programs, departments, divisions and institutions follow infection control procedures and national and state regulations as informed by science and safety. We are committed to maintaining the integrity of our training program and gaining professional competence while balancing the safety of our interns, faculty and patients. Specific COVID-19 adjustments to our programs can be found in our brochures. As we have learned over the past three years, it is impossible to have certain expectations for the future, and we recognize that we will need to be flexible and creative as we continue to adapt to this situation. All adjustments will be designed to maintain the integrity of our program and prioritize the safety of our students and faculty.
