Helen worked full-time for the same subcontractor. They are raising four young children.

But when they graduated from the program, they went straight on, amassed a 4.0 GPA and added two more children to their family.
“My husband and I are cyber security experts and we want to strengthen and expand our knowledge and experience,” explained Helen. “We also have big goals for our family. The first thing is to set a good example for our children, to show them their highest ambition.
Mubarak and Helen will receive their degrees together on December 16 with a small group of friends and family attending the award ceremony. The next day, their house will be full of people from other countries arriving to help the family celebrate. The parties will also include the couple’s six children, ages 8 years to 3 months.

“We are an American immigrant family originally from Ghana,” Helen said. “As first-time students here, we feel we have a lot to offer and this country has given us the opportunity to use that.
“I’m ready to do whatever I can to improve myself and get back to this side,” he said. “For me, the sky’s the limit.”
“I was in my last trimester when I started,” she explained. “I got a big piece of paper the same day the baby was born. I sent the paper and just a few hours later I was in the hospital pushing the baby. It just kept happening. What happened to her last class in a program: She was pregnant again and the baby and her final report were recorded on the same day.
Mubarak’s bachelor’s degree from Ghana, where they both grew up, is in economics. Helen holds a BA with a double major in Psychology and Cognitive Studies. Although they studied at the same university at the same time while living in the same apartment, they first met 12 years ago in New York.

Helen and Mubarak have many certificates in their schools. But Helen says learning is a vital part of a cyber security professional’s life.
“With new technology and AI [artificial intelligence] and other new things happening every day, it’s important for cybersecurity professionals to keep up with the trends,” he said, adding that she and her husband find the program ideal. classes for the work they do.
They don’t sugarcoat the seriousness of the degree. Although they are in the same program, they are not in the same classes at the same time. However, it took a long time for them to reject their ideas. And they looked at each other’s backs, which changed.
“It’s been hard. It’s been a long journey,” Helen said. “It might be easy to say, ‘We’ve got to take a break from this,’ but we have a message in this house: We’re not going to give up.”

Mubarak and Helen say their 8-year-old daughter is a big help with the little ones as the house keeps a busy schedule. Parents pay the club by looking after the children. However, he mostly studied at night when the children were asleep.
“I worked 9 to 5 and then I took a break and I took a break,” Mubarak explained. “At 8:00 p.m. The children went to bed between 1 p.m. Sometimes—when we had homework deadlines—we didn’t sleep at all.
“Then at 7 a.m. we’re ready for work and getting the kids ready for school,” she said.
