Pandit is currently the Chief Data Officer and Chief Technology Officer at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland. As director of information technology at the state’s flagship university in Eugene, he will oversee hundreds of IT employees and lead strategic planning as the school continues to reevaluate and modernize its services as part of a long-running “Transform IT” initiative.
The University of Oregon, home to more than 22,000 students, began a review of its technology operations in 2015. Minton was appointed CIO in 2017 after leaders developed a plan to centralize IT services through the information services unit and the campus library. Entering my senior year at the School of Communication (SOJC), I made it my mission to make a job in public relations after college as accessible as possible. I wanted to make it a little less scary and increase my chances of success.
Here are my tips for getting a job after college in an organized and less chaotic way.
When you start applying for a position, you are immediately immersed in the details. There are names, email addresses, forms, websites, job search accounts, cover letters – you name it. I created a color-coded, comprehensive tracking document that includes names, times, dates, research, contact information, job title, job description, location, and other information related to each job opportunity. This way my future self can organize what I have and haven’t done during my quest. It helps me feel less overwhelmed when a potential employer is looking for next steps and opportunities.

Employers are people too, so don’t be afraid to help them by reminding them!
SOJC has given us so many resources to make the job search more accessible. Whether it’s faculty, peers, SOJC Student Services, or the Career Center, there are so many people and resources out there to help you in your job search.
