Utah Valley University Masters Programs – OREM, UT – The Master of Social Work program at Utah Valley University () is fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). The program received provisional accreditation in 2017 and welcomed its first graduating class of 49 students in 2019.

The process for full certification requires MSW program leaders to submit ongoing self-study to CSWE and participate in periodic reviews. After completing multiple site visits and considering submissions, CSWE determined that the MSW program should move forward to full accreditation dating back to 2017.

The two-year program prepares and equips students to provide competent care for individuals, families, groups, communities and societies as advanced generalist social work professionals. MSW graduates are prepared to become licensed clinical social workers in Utah in accordance with the state’s Mental Health Professional Practice Act.

Approximately 30 students are admitted to the MSW program each year as a first-year cohort. As the cohort moves into its second year of planning, additional senior students are added, bringing the cohort population to approximately 60 students. Students who graduate from a CSWE-accredited bachelor’s program can enter the MSW program without standing and only need to complete the second year of the program. 38% of UVU students are first generation. In 2018, there were 1,280 first-generation graduates from vocational colleges. UVU offers instruction, events and support through its “I Am First” program, which automatically includes all first-generation students at UVU.

Last year, President Astrid S. Tuminez announced a new $15 million First Generation Initiative aimed at raising funds for scholarships and programs that support first-generation UVU students. Donors have pledged $3 million, and UVU plans to secure full funding for the program over the next three to five years.

Utah Valley University’s Master of Education (M.Ed.) is an applied master’s program designed to develop teaching skills and professional competencies for educators.
